The iPod Washing Machine "Experiment"
+ I brought my iPod to my day job yesterday where I worked out at lunch time at the company gym. Before showering, I tucked my iPod into my shorts pocket. Upon arriving home from work, I placed the sweaty workout clothes into the washing machine but did not turn on the machine.
Fast forward to this morning where I'm driving into work at 8:30am. It occurs to me that my I-pod is queued to be washed. I will call my wife when I get to work.
Fast forward to 10am. I still haven't called my wife. While teaching someone the basics of SQL, it occurs to me that my I-pod is still queued to be washed. I call my wife.
"Question: " I ask, impersonating Dwight Schrute from The Office. She doesn't get the reference. "The Office" I tell her.
"You know I'm not an 'Office-iniado'." She giggles at her witty wordplay.
"Did you run any laundry" I ask, crossing my fingers.
"Yes, 1 load. why?"
Dammit. "Check my shorts pocket."
A few seconds elapse. "Not smart honey" I can sense her shaking her head and actually waving a finger at the phone. Not smart indeed.
The iPod wouldn't turn on, obviously traumatized by the spin cycle and the sudden invasion of soap.
And so the experiment begins. Can an iPod survive a washing machine. The verdict will be released this weekend.

good luck. i recently went swimming with my car keys, door remote and starter remote in my pocket. the door remote worked no problem. the starter remote worked after about an hour. then two days later the starter remote died for good.
keep us posted. i still need to get aquaman something for christmas.
hey, my son has an ipod shuffle, it went through the wash and the dryer, it worked great until the battery went dead. Then it wouldn't charge. Finally, I plugged it into the computer for a final try, and the itunes screen came up as usual and the shuffle still wasn't charging, then the idea came to me to reprogram the silly thing, I thought that the worst that would happen is that we would have to redownload all the songs to it. And, guess what, it worked! It took 6-weeks for me to get smart enough to reprogram it, but it is still working fine, and this was in May that he washed it. Hope yours turns out as well
Your iPod may not work, but you can send it back to Apple and get a replacement, as long as you leave that convenient detail out :) I had a similar thing happen last year (expect in my case it was the girlfriend's fault), Apple is really great about replacing broken products.
Thanks for the tip Anonymous #2!
Hi Nice Blog .If you fast forward through your play list, ipod replacement battery will need to fill its cache more frequently, thus accessing the hard drive more often and using more power. This will decrease overall battery life.
My dad came up to me yesterday, held out my ipod shuffle and said he found it in the tumble dryer (obviously after going through the washing machine then full dryer cycle).. i feared the worst, plugged some headphones in, switched it on n it was fine.. and still is fine, obviously going through the dryer aswell dried it out perfectly, with nothing but a couple paint chips, score 1 to ipod
